Mexican Standoff Slot Review — NetEnt

    Reviewed on:

    ⏳ Not fully reviewed yet

This review is based on pre-release promotional material provided by NetEnt. Details may change before or at launch on 12 November 2026. A full review will follow once the game is live.

Limited availability: the game is listed with exclusive early access from 5 November 2026, a week ahead of its general release.

Four fighters, four cans, four powers unleashed. One very bad idea.

Four luchadores, four energy drinks, and a ring that gets bigger as the chaos builds. Mexican Standoff is NetEnt carrying on their strong 2026 run with something that doesn't look much like a NetEnt slot at all. There are no paylines. Instead, four Luchador collectors move around the grid picking up symbols of their colour, and every position they visit doubles its multiplier, up to x4096. When luchadores finish next to each other, they start fighting: throws, tag teams, corner jumps. It's a busy, rules-heavy design, and on paper it's one of the more ambitious things NetEnt has put out this year. It's high volatility with a 15,000x max win, and the grid grows from 6x6 up to 8x8.

    Core Gameplay

Wins come from Collected Pay instead of lines or ways. The four luchadores (El Fuego, El Loco, El Rayo and El Tigre) collect matching-colour symbols, and Wilds can be collected by all of them in the same move. Every position a luchador visits gets a multiplier that starts at x2 and doubles on every later visit, capped at x4096. Collected symbols disappear and an Avalanche™ refills the grid, and that keeps going until there are no more wins.

Every collected symbol also feeds the Hype Meter, which can store several activations. Each activation clears the board, triggers an Avalanche and fires the Random Multiplier feature, which raises multipliers on random squares by one step and can expand the grid to 7x7 and then 8x8. In the base game the grid resets between spins.

Three special symbols get picked up along the way. The Grid Clearer Roomba removes low-pays and luchadores in a 90-degree area. The Symbol Converter Battery recolours a whole row or reel to match the luchador who grabbed it, turns any symbol already on another luchador's path into a Wild, and can chain to other luchadores on that line. The Multiplier Doubler Chair doubles every multiplier in a 3x3 area (Small) or across the whole grid (Big). Yes, the folding chair is a weapon. It's lucha libre.

Then there are the Position Based Features, which kick in when two or more luchadores stop next to each other. Brawl throws one somewhere else to keep collecting. Tag Team makes two move together. Character Removal takes one off the grid along with all its matching symbols. Corner Jump sends a cornered luchador leaping to a cluster of matching symbols, doubling the multipliers where it lands. Edge Rush sends one charging along the row at another, doubling multipliers on the way before throwing its opponent. Get three or more luchadores involved and several of these can fire from the same activation.

    Bonus Features

Collect 3 Bonus symbols and you get 5 Free Spins. Here, the multipliers, expanded grid and Hype Meter all carry over between spins, which is the big difference from the base game, where everything resets. Any expansion from the triggering spin comes with you too. Each extra Bonus symbol adds one spin, and a Super Bonus symbol upgrades the round to Super Free Spins from the next spin.

Super Free Spins start directly if one of the three triggering Bonus symbols is a Super Bonus. It's the same 5 spins with everything carrying over, plus the Random Multiplier is guaranteed at least once per spin. Since multipliers only keep doubling, that guaranteed step-up on top of persistent multipliers is what sets the Super round apart.

    Feature Access & Buy Options

NetEnt's Elevate Feature has five options, one per round. Bonus Hunt (1.5x) raises the odds of triggering either free spins mode. Charged x16 (10x) and Charged x128 (75x) start the spin with that multiplier already on every position. With values doubling from there toward the x4096 cap, those two are the most interesting options on the menu. Loco Spins (100x) guarantees Free Spins, and Full Chaos Spins (500x) guarantees Super Free Spins. Every RTP setting comes in buy-enabled and buy-disabled versions, and the buy-enabled ones run marginally higher.

    Next Steps for This Review

At launch we'll look at how far luchadores usually travel per spin, how often Position Based Features trigger, and how often the grid actually reaches 8x8 in the base game. We'll also check how high multipliers climb in Free Spins compared with Super Free Spins, and whether Charged x16 at 10x is better value than Charged x128 at 75x.

Full gameplay analysis and a final score will follow the launch.
